See if anyone more electrically inclined can help me out.
Neighbor gifted me a 1979 (I’m pretty sure) Jeep Cherokee Chief on the condition I get it off his property. He only visits here a couple weeks of the year and he tired of spending so much time working on it. It usually gets run a couple days every year. Never had any electrical problems previously other than an always running heater fan.
Put in a new battery and turn the key to accessory. Got lights on the dash. Tried turning it over. Nothing.
no more lights on the dash, no power to anything.
Replaced the starter solenoid as a Hail Mary, but no luck. Re-charged the battery, no luck.
I hate electrical problems
I am not electrically inclined, and have only a very basic cursory knowledge. Any help is much appreciated.

lots of unconnected wires in the engine bay, but thankfully no signs of rodents yet.

Sometimes an ammeter will act like a fuse. Could be simply that, but more likely you well have multiple problems to fix. Treat it like an onion - one layer at a time. Here's a good tip: Fix Known Problems First. If you know there is a problem, fix it NOW, instead of thinking, "Oh, that can't be IT. I'll do that later." Fix it NOW and then there is one less variable in your mess.
And sometimes, that thing you said could not be IT, really is IT.
More often, it's a contributing factor. But either way, you gain nothing by putting it off for later.
