my buddies got a 05 wrangler 4x4 on 34's with the 4.0 6 speed... hes been driving about an hour to work and back the last week as a temp thing... he said his jeeps started acting kind of sluggish and lost some power... to day he said its real bad... maybe can get to 65 down hill... but 55 anytime else... said its drinking gas real bad too... any ideas on what would cause him to loose so much power and yet not throw a code? to me it almost sounds like something is holding him back...

no parking brake one
oils good
no brake or clutch smells...
not overheating
normal oil pressure and alittle high if anything...

well first question. Is the check engine light on or does it come on when there is no power? and the second is, how many miles are on it?

 

Whens the last time hes changed his spark plugs? Also has he ever sea-foamed it? Could be alittle build up in the fuel system/injectors and how dirty is his air filter?

 

sorry guys havent gotten back all day... originally i thought there were no codes... then LATER he tell me there was... but its been on for two years... take a guess... bank 1 and bank 2 02 sensors... its got 30k on it SO i told him to take it to the dealer... ALL vehicles have a 8year 80k warranty on the emissions system... he will more then likely need a cats... other advice i got before even knowing about the codes was possibly clogged cat and or muffler... which i had thought was possible and ive read about it happening but ive never seen it... lol... so hes gonna take it to them and at least get the code fixed up first... then we will go from there... thanks!

If it's still under warranty I'd be taking it to the dealer. I wouldn't even bother diagnosing the issue.

 

thats what i told him... i read something i didnt know when googling for him about the 8yr 80k emissions warranty that ALL vehicles are required to have now... not even sure when that law took affect... lol...

 

Both cats were clogged... 2 02 sensors were melted away... Jeep fixed under emissions 80k 8 yr warranty free of charge...
