Lightbulb Fix Part Time light on np231

ok so you put ur xj in 4WD and ur 100% sure that it works.......but there is not indicator light on your dashboard! what could this be? burnt out bulb? bad sensor? well i will show you how to diagnose this and pinpoint the problem!

1. first here is a test to see if the light works. with ur jeep off shift into 4wd (high or low it dont matter) and turn the ignition to 'on'

now mine didnt work

2. ok so now you know it didnt work. next step is to go to the switch on the transfer case. it is located on top of the transfer case, which is under the drivers side behind the transmission

it looks like this

3. found it? now to test by elimination. unplug the connector that clips on the switch. loop together the 2 prongs (i used a paper clip)

4. now with the paper clip in place (and sure its connected....) hop back in and turn the ignition to 'on' (it doesnt matter if its in 4WD cause the switch is locked on)

5. well mine worked!!!!! which is nice cause i dont gotta rip apart the dash for a stupit light bulb (good luck if thats you!) so this means the switch is bad, now this is an easy fix. to pull the switch jist get a 7/8 wrench and unscrew it.

here it is (sry blurry pic cause camera couldn't focus)

6. now sometimes you can get away with jist cleanin it up and some di-electric grease. if that doesnt work its time for a new one

7. install is easy jist screw it in nice and tight and connect it in and your done!

you can buy it It is a-- 4WD Indicator Light Switch.
