Default wont stay in overdrive

well im back again got my motor swap all done ( 97 4.0 into 94 GC) sooooo now im going to deal with/ fix probs with my old ladys 93 GC

its got the 4.0 inline 6 in it with i believe the Aw4 trans ( it has the long narrow pan on it ?) from a stop or driveing around in the city it shifts fine , but once your up to highway speed and it goes into overdrive it will stay there for a little while then kicks off then will go back and forth going in and out of OD

i thought i read somewhere that if the throttle position sensor on the throttlebody isnt reading right it will cause it????

anyone got some info or advice on were to start ?

fyi , i have already tried playing with the kickdown cable and no matter what i do it doesnt make it stay in overdrive

are you sure it is the overdrive and not the converter it will lock together at highway speeds, there is a solinod that if it goes bad it will lock and unlock just like yours hope this helps

took it for a drive this morning and yes it is the lock up converter part cause it shifts into 4th and stays in that gear but the converter wont stay locked in hers will be going 65 mph and be turning lil over 2100 rpm , when mine only turns about 1800 rpm at that speed , and yes we both have same gearing in the diffs and same size tires , thou mine has the 42re trans in it but dont think it should matter

i take it that the solinod is easy to get to?

you have to drop the trans pan, the solenoid is the one on the drivers side front beside the filter should have a yellow wire going to it very easy to change good luck.
