winch mounting question
should i mount my winch on the front bumper (permanent installation) or mount it on a 2" hitch, install a 2" receiver on the front, thereby giving me the option to run the winch in the front or the back? anyone have experience with this, pros/cons??

I would mount it on a winch bumper or one of the winch kits that go over a stock bumper rough country makes a kit for it.The portable winch system sounds good on paper but in the real world is crap.If you have to use it and the end you want to put it on is buried you gotta dig it out to get the winch on.Or if your wheeling with it in the front hitch you got less approach angle and something else you can get hung up on.Most of the time your gonna be winching forward if you ever have to winch back you can do it from the front with 3 ****** blocks and 3 straps/tree savers.

I have a permanent mount winch bumper on my XJ and another winch mounted on a receiver that I carry in the cargo area, had it there over 4 yrs. and never used it once out on the trail. Just FYI
The front is used a lot in the places I wheel at.
