Default wierd starting problem

Hey everyone. New here...how bout some help.

Heres my problem: Got a 93 grand cherokee with the 4.0. When i turn it over i get a loud and rapid clicking from the solenoid...doesnt turn over. However if i hook it up to another car battery for a jump (car not running) it starts up....dont even have to start the other car. Now if i hook jumper cables up to a good charged battery i have with battery out of car and sitting on ground...wont start...just clicking again. So why would a hook up to a battery in a car vs out of a car make a difference??? this is wierd...jeep will jump, but wont start on its own with a good battery.

i cleaned cables and connections to solenoid and starter...im lost here!

Any thoughts?? Thanks.

Sounds like the solenoid. I've taken them apart before and mostly found dirty contacts that only needed cleaning and a light sand job.
