I'm looking at buying a 99-01 GC and need to know what are some common things to look for? I am looking at the V-8's, not necessarily a 4X4. I've owned a couple of XJ's with the 4.0, and those were bulletproof. But I need a little more hp/torque to tow my Mustang.

i would stick with a 4.0. i am always pulling vans, trucks, and skidsteers with mine and i never had a problem.

 

If your main purpose is towing then 4.0 will do but you can also consider getting 4.7 for increased towing capabilities...
4.0L is 2.2tons
4.7L is 3.0tons
