Okay,

So I am having an issue here. As I am not familiar with ZJ's I am wondering what your vehicles idle at after warm.

The reason is, no matter temp. My vechicle never exceeds or lowers under 1k cold or warm when idling in park.

But, if I rev the engine then it will drop very low, sometimes down to 200 or so before bouncing back up. However when i am in drive, it drops down to 700 and if I put on the brakes or stop at a stop light then it will sometimes drop down to 300 ish. A few times it has died on me (of course while making a hard turn )

I am going to be checking vaccuum and then do a compression and leakdown test, but I am mostly curious what everyone's idle is at in park and when in a forward gear.

Thanks

Sounds like your IAC motor is lazy. Some say clean it, I say replace it and clean the throttle body.

Well, my folks own a shop, so next weekend when the shop is closed, the first thing I'm going to check and to see open loop, closed loop status. It feels almost like it is staying in closed loop all the time. Or open loop, I always forget which one is which.

I used to turn a wrench for a living, but haven't worked on my own cars in 3 years or more. So I am having to re-learn this, luckily my uncle who has been a mechanic for 40+ years. Is providing guidance and letting me use his tools when i need to because I sold mine.

He's one of those old school guys that stayed up on the latest technology. He thinks also that I may have some broken parts that aren't broken enough to throw a code but still may be not working right.

But without checking to make sure that things aren't working right I will need to drive around with the scan tool and check status. Here's hoping that I will have a lot more info to report.

The IAC won't set a code in most cases on an OBDI vehicle.
