Never heard a sound on my '94 ZJ when the VC was failing on my NP249.
The tires would complain during tight turns after the vehicle had been used for hours, on mine.
Go w/ a rebuilt VC. Ensure all four tires have identical circumference. I hang the vehicle and use two tailor's tape measures sewn together for the measurement.
