Any clue how much that would run me. Or how hard of a job that would be?

Look for one out of a Cherokee that is the same year model. The imput shaft changed in 1994. Do a search and you will pull up all the info that you will need.

woa woa wait.. you need quite a bit for the swap.. shift bezel, shift linkage, possibly a new input shaft.. I'm doing my first transfer case rebuild/swap.

BTW, you already have a GREAT transfer case!!! I'm sure people could get into an argument all day about a 231 being better (stronger) than a 242, but seriously bro you can't go wrong with what you have... AT ALL. Honestly you could probably find someone that would trade you straight across. What is the year/model of your jeep?

I have the crappy 249 t case, I am doing a swap to the 231. And yes, I bought it used for $150, but since I need to change the input shaft in it, I'm going to buy a master rebuild kit and rebuild the t case to make it basically new and heavy duty.

One is part time while the other is full time? Full time is full on 4x4, all the time. Part time I believe only engages the front axle when a tire starts slipping? I'm not sure.
