steam from the vent

steam from the vent

Every time I turn on the the air (air conditioning, heater, etc) I experience steam coming from the vents and the strong smell of radiator fluid. Trying to figure out where to start my search so that I can make the necessary repair...Any ideas? And should I simultaneously replace the engine temp gauge?

Engine: 4.0 high output straight 6

+3 on bad heater core. either replace it (pretty easy to do ) or just bypass it by rerouting the coolant lines to it until you can fix it.

If it's in a daily driver though you may want the heater since winters coming in fast lol.
