Stabilizer removal, and tie rods 96 Cherokee
Hello all, awesome site you guys have here.
My reason for being here today is that my 96 gc has an issue with the stabilizer. From what the mechanic is telling me is that the stabilizer unit to broken or loose, im thinking loose. He states that tie rods and the stabilizer needs to be all replaced and everything else that goes with it. In your opinion, do the tie rods need to be replaced? or can the stabilizer be replaced alone? And is it supposed to be tight? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Also he says that it will cost about 150 to do the work. Thanks for any input

Well I think that you should just go under there and wiggle stuff around to find the real problem. If your tie rod needs to be replaced then that's the tre's that you need to worry about.. Something completely different from the stabalizer. In fact, you really don't even need a stabalizer. I feel like the mechanic is just trying to get your money and it sounds unclear as to what the problem really is. But I think that for anything a mechanic says lol. Is there any play in your steering?

Yes I hear you on this and I feel that well it could be that very thing of him trying to get my money, but as of late, there has been this popping sound when I make a right turn while in motion. He drove the vehicle and said there is some play to my steering wheel, so I dont know if thats related. I love this truck, but its difficult to ascertain exactly what it could be. You wouldnt by chance have a reference guide to where I can get the right diagnosis. Thanks in advance

The way I figure out what's wrong is posting on here lol. If there's play in the steering wheel then you need to replace your tie rod and the adjustable tre on the drivers side. You could replace your stabalizer too. I suggest a zj tie rod upgrade and a $40 rough country stabalizer. Chek it out https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/zj-...upgrade-22717/
