No need to cross the engine, you can run along the firewall and up to the battery with lots of ease. i don't reccomend running anything through the door jambs, especially if you plan to go doorless in the future.

I ran my amp wires under the center consol to under the back seat, and the amp power wire from the battery through an existing grommet at the rear of the engine. It is a very clean install and you never tell there is a nice system in my jeep other than the 10" sub in a box next to my spare tire.

if you have a stock radio or one without RCA's you need a crossover/line out converter I think its called.

I used a piece of a wire coat hanger with the wire secured to one end and sharpened at the other end, and then i just poked it through being careful not to damage the harness.
