Question shift on the fly 4wd???

I have a 97 ZJ with the 4.0L. I'm curious about the transfer case. on my XJ I can pull it into 4hi while driving and it goes in no problem. on the ZJ if I try and do that the T-case acts like its in neutral. it seems like the only way it will engage is if I come to a complete stop put the trans in neutral the shift into 4wd (like I'm putting it in Lo range) is this normal? also I can't tell a difference from 4hi part time and 4hi full time. what is the difference? is there clutches in the T-case, the front wheels don't seem to pull very hard in 4hi, in comparision to my XJ. I had a hard time making it up my street in the ZJ in 4hi my XJ will walk right up it with no probs. could the T-case in the ZJ be bad? sorry for the long post but I think that about covers my questions.

You have the 242 transfer case. The fulltime 4 wd can be run on pavement because the tc acts like a diff. and allows slippage between front and rear. When I shift into fulltime I just pull the handle back let off the gas and then just drive. I have done this at about 40 mph before, the owners man. says highway speed. The part time 4wd should never be used on pavement unless it is well covered in snow. It locks the front to the rear like it does in 4-lo. I hardly ever use the PT 4wd I just use full time.

UPDATE: actually I can notice a difference from "full time" & "part time" in 4 HI. after getting 3 feet of snow today, I was out driving around and found out in "full time" you can still fish tail around corners pretty easy. in "part time" the Jeep tracks where you point it. and just for fun in 2 HI you get stuck.

Do you still have parts?

I am looking for the power seat plastic bezels that the switches mount in as mine are broken. My color is dark sand (tan)
