Default Serpentine Belt

What I have is the squealing belt that is very annoying. Just put in a new alternator, tensioner and idler pulley, still the squealing persists and the belt is only a year old. I used the autozone duralast belt. Looking for some help in regards to serpentine belts and which ones are the better ones. Which belts have you used and how satisfied are you?

Get a Goodyear Gatorback belt, cheap belts will make noise pretty fast no matter what you do.

Long shot. I replaced an idler pulley once because the old one was binding. It wasn't noisy . It just wasn't spinning freely. Thats when my squeak started. This was not a Jeep. The stock pulley had a coating over it. Might have been a rubber coating, don't really know. The new one didn't have that coating. I think its just the belt on the metal surface. Spraying that belt conditioner on it just made it worse. It got better over time , but still squeaks intermittently. Comes and goes. Maybe this is your problem.

Default Belt

If the vehicle has a previous owner, they may have used some spray on belt dressing. That stuff is bad, and often causes more troubles than you started with. (and doesn't fix the real problem).

It's somewhat sticky, if it's on any of the other pulleys. (?)

Squealing is almost always the belt, swap if for another brand and kill the problem. I have good service on the Goodyear belts, another post above is the same. You can clean the pulleys while you have it off, but the noise is usually the belt.

I am second owner as my brother was first owner. I never came across this problem before and I always use autozone belts. Anyone ever use that new Dayco brand that says "W" belt. Also where can I get the Goodyear belt

Possible . But not likely. I didn't have a squealing problem, intermittent or otherwise, until I changed that one pulley. Belt was about 6 months old when I changed the pulley. It comes and goes. Its not a problem for me . But I agree with you about never using the belt dressing.

Belt dressing is not for micro v / serpentine belts. It shouldn't be used on any belt made in the last 20 years.

Done deal. No one in the 25 mile radius of my hometown carried the Goodyear belt in-stock so I just stuck with the autozone dayco belt cause the noise was just unbearable. No more squealing just the sweet sound of 318cc.
