New 98 ZJ I just picked up has a ruined door lock. Looks like someone got locked out and opened it with a screwdriver. I have the title for the vehicle btw.

I was just wondering how this process goes. If I want to use the same key as my ignition, I'd have to replace the ignition right? What are my options? Can I convert to a keyless entry setup?

Edit: So after some research, it looks like in order to achieve keyless entry, I'll have to go to a dealership and have them program it. They shouldn't have an issue with it being a 98 and all, right? And I can buy the remote off eBay and have it cut to my current key, right?

If you want to use the one key, it may be better to get the ignition door lock set from the dealer and install it. If you go to the keyless entry, you still have the issue of the messed up damaged lock, which someone may mess with because it looks like easy entry.

I'd cover up the key hole and paint over it to hide it. So where would I buy the ignition door lock set? Like from rock auto? And with that I'd replace my ignition, key, and door locks?

If I'm looking for a car alarm too, would this solve my issue as well? If I wanted keyless entry?

96+ ZJ keyless entry systems have to be programmed by the dealer with the DRB tool. if you wanted a like key for the doors and ignition, you would have to either get a new door lock cylinder and have it matched to your existing key, or replace all the door lock cylinders and ignition cylinder with a matched set.

from what I've seen, aftermarket alarm/keyless entry systems tend to upset the ZJs electronics, so personally i wouldnt go that route.

Any idea on how I would be able to do that? My 89 2-door cherokee has 3 keys, one for ignition and 2 for the doors/hatch... Would love to have all the locks and ignition run off one key
