rear end gear ratio
I finally was able to decode my rear end ID tag and shows that my rear end gear ratio is 3.73
Most junkyard have 3.35 What will be the difference if I put 3.35 in my Jeep?.
Thanks.

A full time 4WD vehicle must have the same gear ratio in both front and rear axles so that the t-case isn't damaged by the differences in rotational speed between having two different ratios. That would cause the drive-shafts to turn at different speeds. Similar in principal to two bicycles, one having 20" tires and the other having 24" tires. The smaller ones will rotate faster over the same distance. Hope this helps.
