Default Realtime Help: 5.2 fan clutch

OK, how the hell does this thing come off?

Never saw a fan clutch attached like this. So, what's the typical 4 bolts on pulley holding?

Thanks for the phone call Nick. Got it off and everything is torn down.

So, reason for this is that on the V8's theres a 90* bypass hose from the waterpump to the front of the intake manifold. We thought this was leaking because there was standing coolant just below and around it. Figured i would do a water pump while i have everything torn down.

While cleaning everything in prep for reassembly i now think it's the intake manifold gasket leaking in the front.. just below that bypass hose. Not good news with snow forcast for tomorrow night..

I hear some cheat and tighten down the intake a tad and install a 13lb radiator cap to lower pressure. This being a customers Jeep i dont think i'll be going that direction.. unless he decides to.

I hate when a job keeps leading to more work. During disassembly i looked at the bypass hose that i thought was the source of a coolant leak, while old it didnt look to be the cause. That left the intake gasket.. someone else had been here before and screwed this job up. Notice the torn gasket and they had to clearance the gasket to get the bolts in.

But i found the source and the customer will be happy. Thats what counts. Replaced the Plenum gasket on the bottom of the intake itself, these are known to go bad and cause loss of oil and bad mileage issues on the 5.2L V8. Also figured now was the time for a new water pump.

As it sits now awaiting the intake reinstall. Got hit with better than 20" of snow overnight and this am, and i aint that motivated to work in the driveway. I'll finish it up tomorrow.

My wife's current ZJ needs the plenum gasket as well, i'll wait till spring/summer as it becomes my next Jeep at months end. Building her another ZJ.. this one with a 4.0L.

WOW... My ZJ needs a new plenum.. it is cracked at the thermostat housing...

I plan to put a new(used) intake and gaskets on it this spring!
