Please help!
I was driving down the highway when out of nowhere there was a loud bang. I thought it was the tire so I pulled over and the tires were fine, but since that snap there’s been a very noticeable clanking sound while I’m driving. It sounds like it’s rotating with my tires but I know it’s not a good sound. Diff? Something worse? Please lmk.
Is anybody missing their cat? Really though, you might have hit unseen debris on the highway. Get it up on a lift and inspect undercarriage, spinny parts, wheels and brakes...

It reads like a u-joint got unstuck and the XJ only has a "few" of them
I would get it up on a rack or on jacks and check the drive shafts as well as the axle u-joints.
Good Luck!
