I'm brand new to this forum, I just bought a 2002 Grand Cherokee (WJ) yesterday. My first 4 x 4! It has the overhead trip computer, but the temperature always displays -40 C (I'm in Canada). I'm assuming that the temperature sensor is either disconnected or damaged and I haven't had time to look yet. Would be interested in hearing from others how easy/difficult the sensor is to replace, or whether the misread means some other problem (such as an issue with the chassis computer, which is apparently common with these vehicles.)

The reading of -40C is a default reading. This is usually a broken temp sensor. If you give me until tonight I can check the school comp. to see how hard and where it is.

the sensor is extremely easy to replace/fix,if you look at the passenger side of your front grill you will see it right behind the throat ring..sometimes the connection just needs to be cleaned

Thanks very much for your response. I only bought the Jeep the day before yesterday and hadn't even looked for the sensor yet - it is nice to know that it is easy to find. I also found on another site, complete instructions and even pictures showing how to service the sensor. http://www.wjjeeps.com/ambient.htm.
