I've been having an almost grinding noise in my 1996 Grand Cherokee v8. It occurs at low speed up to about 33 mph then disappears while accelerating. If I take my foot off the gas and coast to 33 it starts again. At speeds around 55 to 60 it begins to shake but there is no grinding. There is a constant whine noise, which I think is only on the right side possibly a wheel bearing. The grinding sounds like it is coming from directly under me in the middle under the cup holder area. I have a video which has the sound but cant seem to upload it via mobile.

 

Check the fluid level in the t-case.

 

Where would I check the transfer case fluid? Just transmission fluid?

 

Remove the fill plug on the transfercase and fluid should run out. If it is low you need to top it off with ATF.
