No gears is no good!
98 Grand Cherokee Laredo 6cyl 4.0 liter. Automatic Trans and 4WD. She has been going well overall.
Went to a friend's this evening and seemed to roll back a bit before park engaged when I got there. When I went to leave I had no gears. Briefly reverse actually but then nothing.
Have been having a problem where she won't start occasionally which I think is the park/neutral switch because when I give the shifter a shake she'll start fine. Lately, that shake needed to be a little more severe. This did happen when I went to leave as well.
Fluid should be OK but I can't check it now because it's not level.
Any suggestions on what to check when I head out there tomorrow?
Thanks in advance, I know this is kind of a newb sounding 911. Any suggestions are appreciated. (They never break down when its convenient ya know?)

It was the shift cable. 208k on the odometer so I guess it just got tired. It detached at the shift lever on the transmission itself. Have not found an OEM equivalent at the local parts stores. Will try the dealer tomorrow.
Does not look too difficult to replace.
