I was lucky enough to find a new rear bumper and brackets (the right color even) without breaking the bank but while looking at the old mangled one I can't figure out how the he|| to get the new one on (bolts and stuff) because it's all inside.

Can anyone give me advice or step by step instructions??? I am so confused.

What year and model? XJ, ZJ, or WJ?

It's a 94 GC. I think that's a ZJ. I've only had it 3 months, I miss my XJ!!!

To take the plastic bumper cover off all you have to do is remove the push in retainers in the rear fenderwells and along the very bottom of the cover, then gently pry up the steppad on the top of the bumper cover and the whole cover will come off with a tug toward the rear at the front edge of the wheel opening of the cover. It's very easy and shocking of just how flimsy the cover really is once you have it off.

I had to replace the entire thing including brackets. I was amazed that all I had to do was put 4 new bolts in!!! Getting the old ones out was the problem.
