Default need help with tire size please

So I have a 1998 jeep grand cherokee and am going to have to buy some new tires. I wanted to do a lift as well but looks like im gonna have to wait in that till next year. So my question is how big of a tire can I fit on my stock 17's at stock ride height without having rubbing issues? I did a brief search online and found some people saying they were running 31's on there grand cherokee. So do 31's fit without rubbing it cutting? I want to go as large and wide as possible without rubbing or cutting anything. I mostly just drive on the street but sometime do some offroad or beach riding and really like the way the larger tires look. So if anyone could please let me know how big I can go and if u got em post some pics of what they look like on stock wheels at stock ride height that would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

31's will rub on stock rims, 30x9.5 are as large as you can go comfortably. There is some variance depending on how much your vehicle sags, what tires you get and any backspacing you have on your rims.

Chances are you will have to do some trimming with 31's, especially the bumper.

The question has been answered a million times, your case isn't any different then the hundreds of other posts out there, google is your friend.

You'd need to trim quite a bit with 31s.

Your best bet would be to roll on a set of 30s. The secret to running larger tires on little to no lift is bumpstopping. Make sure that you have bump stops at a length that will prevent your tires from rubbing on anything. Since you have a ZJ, you WILL need to trim some off the front and rear bumper ends. All it is, is some plastic trimming. No big deal.

There is little to no difference between the ZJ and XJ wheel well sizes.

It's all good. Unfortunately I have no zj experience, so I have no good info.
