I have 94 4.0 and lately have smelled gas when I park inside my garage. Not all the time just here and there. My mpg's are way down and when I unscrew the gas cap to put gas in the tank blows alot of air out of filler tube. Enough to blow the cap right off. I cannot see any gas leaking but am wondering if any advice. Where to start. I replaced fuel pump and filter about 6 months ago and began to notice this about 4 weeks ago.

 

Sounds like a fault in the evap system. Do you have a check engine light on?

 

X2, you may have a faulty purge valve.

 

No check engine light.

 

Pulled the tank down, checked all lines couldnt pinpoint a leak. Dont know what to do next. Does anyone know where the purge valve is?
