Kicker is OK entry level audio.
If you compare specs, http://www.parts-express.com/speakers.cfm Some very, very good deals can be had here.
I have well under $100 total in 4 tweeters, 4 mid woofers (doors) and a dual voice coil sub woofer for my ZJ.
YMMV

I'm running Alpine Type S's front and rear with a small amp pushing 90w RMS to each door. It sounds incredible and I didn't even need to add a sub.

I eventually added this amp: Vibe Litebox 4
The amp is a 4 channel 90w RMS @ 4ohm. It sounds very very good, it's really small and has a fan to keep it cool. I have it installed where the factory Infinity amp was.. No issues hearing the stereo over the jeep. Prior to the amp I could turn my head unit up to around 11-12 before distortion. Now I can go up to 20 if I turn the bass down just a tad.
When I installed the system I went ahead and ran RCA's for an amp to power a sub as I assumed I'd want one. I might still do it one day but honestly there is no need right now. Songs have plenty of bass.. even have a couple bass songs in the mix for showing off. The 6.5's will rattle the entire jeep. I listen to metal / blugrass so it's perfect for my needs.

Have heard alot of good things about Tang Band, but I have never personally run them. mudfrog hit it on the head with a decent set 6.5's in the door and somewhere between 50 and 100 wats per speaker, you will rock and roll. Im running mine at 50, but the subwoofer built into the cubby in the rear i have at 200 watts. I will not be in the Jeep with it over about 1/2 volume.

You won't get real good bass from the factory amp. When I first installed my Alpines Type S's I tried it. Turns out they sounded better hooked up directly to the aftermarket head unit (Alpine w/ 18w RMS).
I eventually added this amp: Vibe Litebox 4

They sound better because the factory Infinity Gold Amp puts out at 2 Ohm Impedance and your HU more than likely puts out 4 ohm which the new speakers are rated for.
I am running these with my stock factory amp and the sound is great!

Does not look like they stock mine any more. Best I recall it was $31ish. Dual Voice Coil, Ploy woofer. Im a huge fan of Polypropolene speaker cones. Better highs, better cross over, better all around sound reproduction. Much sharper Bass if that makes any sense. 100 watts on all 4 doors, as well as 200 to 300 in the subwoofer is plenty. Dollars spent in speakers does not really equal a louder or better sounding system. DONT misunderstand, a billion watts of amp, needs a billion watt speaker but too loud to listen to still equals too loud to listen to, if you know what I mean!

I did my sub as a 10 inch, with a lot of measuring a 12 would fit though. Mine is mounted on 1/4 inch luan. Then I padded and wrapped the hole thing as well as added a tuned port. I dont like the way I have it fastened to the cubby, but Im working on that.
