Keyless Entry Receiver Module
Hi, new to the forum...just got my son a 1993 Grand Cherokee and the keyless entry system doesn't work.
I've replaced the battery in the FOB, still doesn't work. Wondering how I can test the actual receiver module? Not sure where it is...I see the dome has what looks like an infrared receiver, but not sure if the module is in there and if so, how do I verify that it works?
Thanks...expect to have lots of questions...cool truck, even though kind of old.

You may have to reprogram it, there should be instructions in the owners manual. I think you have the key in the on position, drivers door open but locked, then you hold the lock button on the fob down until the door locks cycle. But check the owners manual to be sure. You may also find program info at www.keylessride.com .

The reciever is right there on the headliner, the boneyards are full of them. The IR keyless remote system in the 93-95 ZJs is a joke, you have to aim right at the reciever and be within 20 feet for it to work. An aftermarket alarm tied into the factory power doorlock system works much better.

Actually I just installed an after maket one in mine less expensive then having the dealer repair the orginal.. they can be bought from as little as $30 to $300 depending on how fancy you want to get.. JC Witney sells one that just locks/unlocks the doors for $39.95. it is pretty basic but works great. It is an IC Dymanics unit well made.
