Currently own a 86 2.5 cherokee 4 speed 4x4 with about 85K miles
Today i about a 98 Grand Cherokee Limited 5.9....im currently being left mouth wide open with the amount of torque it has.

My only question is since its my first automatic 4WD....to activate/deactivte 4L are the steps: 1. stop. 2 Neutral. 3. move lever or is it in parking? I Seem to be having to place it in parking to deactivate and neutral to activate.

For getting into 4low, i would suggest rolling a little bit, with the trans in neutral and moving the lever back. Rolling allows for the tcase to unload so everything can move freely. Sometimes it won't want to engage one the first try, but play with it for a few seconds and you'll be good. For getting back in to high, do the same, but with the obvious change in instructions.

ps. Your cherokee has LOOOW miles. Even though it's a 2.5, it's a keeper. How's the body on it?

Agreed that a 3 or 4 MPH roll is the best way to shift that transfer case into 4LO.
