Default Jeep won't start! HELP

I went to start my '94 Grand Cherokee this morning and when I put the key in it turned all the way forward and would not start. No clicking, no sputtering. Battery was not dead, lights, power doors and windows, radio all working. No clicking from the starter. The key turned all the way toward the dash much further than usual. I tried jump starting the jeep and nothing. A guy walking by offered to come help and now I'm pretty sure I'm getting scammed. He used two little pins to help start the jeep and tied a sterio wire somewhere on the undercarriage to get it to start. PLEASE HELP

Scammed? Sounds like the guy was just trying to bypass your starter. What was the outcome?

well it's still not starting. I don't know what the problem is. Does anyone know how to fix an ignition switch that can give me the steps and directions??

There's other more common things that can cause a no start issue other than your ignition switch. Checking your fuses and that you are getting proper fuel and spark is where I'd start. Can you hear your fuel pump priming when you turn the key?

I heard a little whirring sound. Almost like air.

The scam was that he wanted to buy the jeep right then and there and then offered to fix it for $600 when I didn't jump on his $800 offer on my Jeep.

Have you tried starting it in neutral? Sounds like it could be an issue with the NSS.

Yes what? Hitting the starter, or starting it in neutral?

Oh sorry, I didn't see the second reply. But that answer works for both. I tried tapping the starter with a hammer while turning the key. No change. And the starting it in neutral didn't work either. I don't know what else to try.

Did you hit the starter or the solenoid on top of it? Try both also if you have enough ***** you can start it with a wrench with the key in run

Check your grounds, especially the steal band that goes from the block to the firewall. If all the grounds are there, tight, and in good shape I'd look at the ignition switch. You said it went further than normal correct? Maybe the ignition switch is bad, does it feel normal?

That's what it sounds like to me. I'm lucky if I can start in park, I look at it like a built in kill switch.
