ok guys i need some advice from people that own Grand cherokees. You see my mom owns a grand cherokee laredo and she is trying to get a new car for herself or i buy a car for myself. I was looking at a 95 -96 jeep cherokees but now that i think about it why waste money on a jeep when i can get my moms for free and then use the money to buy a lift and some rims/tires and a grill

I dont know how good the grand cherokees laredo are for off roading but what do you guys think of this situation ? I have 2000 to buy a car for myself or i will have 1000 to add stuff to the grand cherokee.

Let me know what you guys think about this. thanks

Aright well first off this is the wrong section

Besides that, Id go with the cherokee...im biased tho because I hate grand cherokees mostly for the fact that google thinks I mean "grand cherokee" everytime i type in "cherokee"! (/rant). it really depends on you tho

See a few nice grands every now and then...but see a lot more nice xj's...im also kind of biased being im not a fan of the way the grand's look...but it also kind of depends on what condition your moms jeeps in...if its way nice and low miles then go for it....but if its just ok and higher miles, then get an xj

PS. Pretty sure this should be under cherokee chat...tech is more for if you need info on diagnosing or help fixing your jeep.

The Grand has two things going for it IMO.
1. It's FREE,
2. It has coil springs front and rear, so it will flex better when the sway bars are disconnected and going off road.

Everyone has an XJ.

The Grand is FREE!!! Tell your mom I want it!! What year is the Grand your Mom has?

Just my opinion, stock grand Cherokee will offroad the same or better than an XJ. ( i see the PM's cussing me out in my inbox)

haha thanks guys and the grand is a 2002 with 80k miles on it, and the condition of exterior and interior is perfect and the engine is good my dad said that the water pump has to be fixed and thats it. But yea thats what i was thinking of doing either a 2in or 3in lift and put some 30s on it or so. I really like how this burgundy colored one come out with the 2 in lift, check it out see what you guys think http://www.ovoonline.com/id19.html you have to scroll down.

My wife has a 2000 Cherokee, and I have a 93 Grand Cherokee, once you've had a "Grand" you'll never look back. Get the Grand and do some work on it with the extra dollars you'll have in your pocket.

The grand is a lot newer and a lot nicer than any $2000 xj you will find...so go for it...you may need to find some used tires...or go with treadwright...because with a $1000 budget tires can eat most that up...especially if your looking to lift also.

ya id do the lift first if your just doing lite trail ride just kit the 3'' spacer kit of ebay there under $100 and give you the same lift and the water pump probably wont be the last one you change lol so keep an on on engine temps just a heads up dont wanna fry anything

Save the money, take your moms Grand Cherokee.

Use some of the money you saved and put a 3.5" life on it, some 31's and go have some fun!

Most XJs have been well abused, most Grands havent. They have been owned and well taken care of by people like your mom. Something to think about.
