Can anyone please tell me what the little metal cylinder is hanging under the dash. I just got this 96 Jeep cheap from a family member because it wouldn't spark to start and noticed this last night. It gets extremely hot to touch and smells like something is burning inside but I have no clue what it is. Thanks!

 

Cigar lighter, especially if it gets extremely hot to the touch... that should NOT be hanging loose like that... not sure why someone would just let it hang like that.

 

But it has no opening to stick a cigar in? I'm thinking it may be a capacitor and something is shorted making it hot ..

 

I bought a 1994 jeep grand chrerokee limited about 2 weeks ago and it ran fine till the other day I got off of work and it dosent want to start no noise no nothing. Plz help

 

Looks like a capacitor. I would unplug it from the harness and see what if anything stops working.
