Default i need some help!

My insterment cluster in my 2000 grand cherekee is comes on and reads for like then it 2 sec and then all the gauges just stop working is this common or not and what could be the problem if I've checked the fuses

Had a short on a GEO Storm because of the right sized taillight bulb but the wrong part number. Was causing all kinds of weird dashboard issues who knew it would cause a short. Have you changed anything recently. Added aux lights and so or maybe added a trailer harness?

Well I just bought the jeep but ya it looks like the previous owners tried to rig up some trailer lights not sure how they did it just seen some wires under the spare tire cover

Number one cause of electrical problems with a Jeep is the crap the previous owner wired up and hacked all to hell.

Hell ya I went through and fixed my cluster by just taking it out and cleaning the contacts
