Default I got a problem

I am putting a new 4.0 in a 96 Grand Cherokee with an auto trans. I took the torque converter out to inspect the front main seal and now I cant get it back in. It looks like it is in all but 1/2 - 3/4 inch. Ive been fighting it for several hours now and was wondering if you guys had any ideas.
Thanks

they can be tricky, but not hours tricky. they have three steps. just gotta push turn and wiggle till its in. rubber mallet may help.
