Alright so I've been helping my grandmother buy a newer car than what she has already. She really wanted to get a GC so I've been searching craigslist and checking out used car lots for her. I came across a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with 95,000 miles. It's clean inside and out for the most part. The only imperfections on it are the lock actuators are jammed or something for every door except for the driver's, and theres a light scuff on the rear bumper (which is hardly noticeable). It's got the AMC 242, heated leather seats, a moon roof, CD/Tape deck, Alloys, 4x4, and the infinity sound package. The dealer wants $5500 for it (excluding tax, title and registration). He also handed me the carfax and it has only had one owner and it's completely clean. Am I getting ripped off or have I found a deal? I might buy it tomorrow, but i want to know anyway lol

I want to hear my results from real people haha I'm about to bluebook it though... I wish I knew as much about GC's as I do XJs because it would be a no brainer then. What's really sad is the fact that my dad has owned 3 of them and I still don't know too much on them.

Nahhhh, you're fine I didn't think you were coming off as a smartass at all. Yeah Jeep love definitely runs in my family. Well that and chrysler puts food on the table and clothes on my back so my family stays loyal to em lol..... My XJ was my uncle's from 1991 (bought new at the dealer) until 1994, then my grandfather bought it and owned it from 1994-early 2010. I bought the XJ off my grandpa and i have no regrets of doing so. Not to mention my grandpa used to store the cherokee in the garage during the winter (while he was in florida). So it hasn't seen much road salt at all. Anyways again with the jeep family topic, My dad had two XJs and a couple GCs (of different body styles may I add), and I actually used to own a 1993 Wrangler YJ which I had from 2006-2008.... Jeep is pretty much all I'll ever drive in life lol

Well I have found the best way to judge a good deal vs a bad deal is looking at trade in fair condition and for alabama a 00 GCL 4x4 4.0 nada and kb around 4500-4900 in fair condition. I also checked out autotrader and found 23 within 100 miles under 100k the highest was 9k lowest was 3k so I would say that it is a fair deal probably not the greatest deal but def not the worst. I would offer 4900 otd. But that is just me and I am a strong believer in sticking to what I feel is fair and I understand the dealer has to make money but they dont have to take my arm and leg also.

For my area on craigslist, a 98 GC goes for like 2200-3k average. A 2000 in my area seem to go for around $5k.

If you buy it give him the cash in hand, but ask if he can sell it to you on paper for $1 that way you dont have to pay stupid property taxes lol.. But make sure you write and agreement that only you and him would know about on paper that you actually sold it for $5k

Paid 5k for my '02 without the leather seats/moonroof if that helps you at all.
