I would rather have a paid for vehicle that gets gas mileage in the high teens than have car payments for a car that gets good mileage. How would it be saving money by buying and making car payments?

18!
That's about as good as it gets...
You could get a CAI and a new exaust?
but you'd save more $$$$ just keeping your current set up!

And at that your only looking at another 3-5 mpg...
Good luck!

Might want to try replacing the PCV valve and O2 sensors. You can also try cleaning the throttle body and doing a fuel injection cleaning. Opening up the air flow path (as in intake, exhaust, headers) could help a bit but that's a lot more expensive. This one might seem obvious but make sure you have the car in 2WD for your commute.
Just drove my 03 GC to the beach this weekend. Got 19.3 Hwy and 16.8 driving mixed city/hwy (mostly hwy). I do go easy with it. If I get into the gas alot mileage drops fast. This was the best I've ever gotten in it. I do notice a preety good difference between driving 55 and 70. Driving around home all city driving it drops to about 15.6.
