I have a conundrum here...

I have a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo (i6). I have a windshield wiper problem. Every time I set the switch to "intermediate", which would normally cause the wipers to go on about once every 20-30 seconds, they come on instead at about a rate of once per second (equivalent to the "low" setting) and stay on until about 10 revolutions of the motor (WAY more than they need!). And to make matters worse, they don't cancel. The wipers tend to find their final resting place in the middle of the windshield :P

So, I shelled out about 80 bucks to get a new switch and, voila! Same problem. So, clearly the issue is not the switch. The motor could be on its last leg, but I don't know that it would act this way if it was. It seems to be a switch-related issue.

Anyone have any suggestions here?

Replace the motor, there is a park switch inside of and it will cause the problems you describe when it goes bad.

 

Thank you for your reply. And wow! The motor is actually cheaper than the switch! Maybe I'll go the salvage yard route.
