Default Grand cherokee no start only by jumping starter with s driver

When I try to start my jeep i hear the click coming from the starter so tried the starter screw driver trick and that worked but only when I held down just a little bit the battery feed wire that is connected to the starter if i try to do the screw driver test without touching the battery feed wire it will only do the clicking noise what could this be now when my wife is in the truck i tell her to turn the key while i am holding down the battery feed wire it starts up fine any info would be great thanks

Check the battery connections, and try and start the engine while the gear selector is in neutral.

the problem with that is mayme 6 months ago i went over a pot hole or something like that and it threw the shifting out of wack so right now thats the only way i have been able to start it is in neutral is it possible that the battery wire that connects to the starter could just be fualty since when i pull it down just a little and thats the only way it will start while using the screw driver?

Could be, the cable should be tight at the starter.
