The shimmy seems to be coming from the front passenger side wheel. The brakes were done in the spring with all new rotors and pads and it did not do this when they were fresh.

My uneducated guess is a bad tire. No visible damage or issues and pressure is correct, so it is truly a guess.

Do the experts have any opinion? Is there a proper place to start to trouble shoot this?

I was going to rotate the tires and see if it still happens. I am praying it is not some sort of suspension or ball joint type issue.

Any suggestions welcome.

What sort of outfit did the brakes? There's a pretty huge variance between the cheap stuff and the good stuff. The parents of one of my friends go through rotors VERY fast. I would not be surprised if it is warped already.

Ahhh V8... that explains the short lifetime.

I wouldn't say $300 but it's certainly not worth the same price a vehicle that actually works would command.

I had this same problem with my 2000 and after all the checking I could do, finally took it to the dealer. They used a DRB III scan tool and found an open circuit to the steering wheel airbag firing squib. That's in the clockspring. All the circuitry for everything on the steering wheel is in that spring, and no, it didn't squeak. It cost me $625 to fix it. Just the part is $300. It's difficult to install properly and if done wrong, can bind and break prematurely. The connectors are on the bottom side of the steering column. Check wjjeeps.com for location and access.

Thanks dave

I'll poke around some more and see what I can find.

Urg dumb and dumber. Lol fuel guage wuestion

Well. After spending all day yesterday pulling my hair out as to why my jeep would crank but not start i gave up. Went to bed last night and thought what if the fuel guage is wrong? The whole time it reads 1/4. So today i got a 5 gal can and filled it up into the jeep. Viola! Started right up. Wow I felt dumb. The whole time I had researched the fuel Sending unit and pump issues and figured one of those must be the issue as i put a new filter and have both fuel and spark. Then i thougt could it be the guage at the dash? How would i determine if its the dash guage? Just a note my tach wasnt working when I bought this and some of the wires had been cut so it could possibly be at my dash. 93 Zj 4.0. Thanks!

I had a 61 Chevy Impala that the gas gauge didn't work in so what I did was watch the odometer and every 200 miles, I filled it up. I worked for me!

Yea Im figuring i will do that or just fill before it gets to half tank which theoretically would be 1/4 tank. another question is there somewhere to buy the valve cover grommets in a set? I seem to only find them sold as one for 3-6 each. Or can i safely reuse the old ones ?

I'll take either. Not sure what i have currently. And another question since i started to rip my dash out tonight.. How would i check for my heat and ac? The whole center air cluster doesnt work.

Rebuild or replace engine?

I have the chance to buy a 1991 Jeep Cherokee Limited, 4.0L. Problem is the engine is bad. I want to get it, and the guy who has it will replace the engine. But would rebuilding the existing engine be less expensive? Is it even worth buying the Jeep either way?

it depend on whether if it got rust, the condition of interior, mileage, etc.

Interior is good, mileage isn't bad, and no rust.

I have a crack in the exhaust manifold. I dont really want to buy a new one. Which other vehicles could I grab one from? I saw a list in wiki that showed which jeep models used this engine so is it safe to go by that list? What about dodge? If I do buy a new one what is a good upgrade for less than 200?

dave1123 07-15-2016 03:29 PM

ATP 101330 OE design with gasket, certified for CA $127.79 from rockauto.com

The secret to not cracking is in the expansion sections added to the OE design. You won't find a good free-flowing header with a larger collector for under $200.

Do I need to replace my thermostat?

My temp gauge is reading over 210°F, almost 225°F. Now, it's like 99°F outside here in Houston. But I'm not overheating. I'm thinking of doing a flush and replacing thermostat, or should I not even mess with it since it's technically not overheating??? Any advice would be appreciated.

Make sure your fan is working, your radiator is clean, and turn off the A/C if the temp goes higher. Anything more and we'll have to know your vehicle.
