pumps,i guess im returning it tommorw

ok so i just put a new fuel pump in and i got code 42 what does this mean i dont really understand this.
42 Automatic shutdown relay circuit open or shorted
OR
42 Fuel pump relay control circuit
OR
42 Fuel level unit - no change over miles
OR
42 Z1 voltage missing when autoshutdown circuit energized (The Z1 voltage is the voltage of the circuits fed by the autoshutdown relay. This typically includes fuel pump and switched-battery feed to the ignition coil)

Hmm... I can give you basics to recheck for a generic fuel pump, based upon the code info you listed. I have good working knowledge, but not expert in all things Jeep, like some of the people here. But here is a place to start.

Recheck your wiring:
Are your wires attached as per instructions? More importantly, has anyone else been there before you and changed the wiring colors in your vehicle?

Make sure all wires are secured well at least, check continuity would be better, especially your ground wire and contacts.

Did you test the fuel pump out of the tank or off frame? Does it run out of your vehicle? If so, the problem may be in your vehicle. If not, it's either miswired or it's defective.

One more thing.... did you have a code before the fuel pump renewal? Did you confirm the wiring circuit to the fuel pump was good before the renewal? Or did you assume the fuel pump was the problem?

(Sorry for the obvious questions, but I had a client who burned up a starter when he told me his truck wouldn't start, and failed to tell me it was out of gas..... )

Is there a fuel filter in front of it? You might need to bleed air from the lines.

Because your code info is all electrical related, I'm not sure where else to tell you to look right now without looking at it. Maybe someone else would have a suggestion.

i don't think there's a filter in-front of it.do you know if theres a trick to putting the seal on that goes around the pump and an easy way to put the lock ring on..

Cool

You will pull your hair out if you use blink codes to diag your problem. If you can get someone to plug a scanner in and get the obd2 codes that will at least point you towards the electrical issue, as far as loosing prime well it could very well be a defective fuel pump module, the silver disc on top of the module is the fuel pressure regulator and check valve all in one.

put silicone grease on the gasket(both sides) Have a helper gently hold the pump in the tank so that you can use both hands to tighten the flange ring. The slower and more steady you turn the better. That plastic lock ring is the biggest pia
