Greetings jeepers-

So on my quest to figure out my recently developed problem of delayed starting, I pose these questions to you. (96 GC 4.0)

Fuel pressure @ idle = 50 psi

Leak down/ 2 hrs. = 12 psi

I do not notice anything around the injectors. Clean & dry. Can they leak/ be bad & not physically show it? No sounds either but I have bad hearing. I did pressurize the system & clamp/ crimp the fuel line behind the fuel filter. It is the only spot in my line that is not metal. 30 psi after 30 mins. Is this the best way to isolate the injectors from the regulator?

Thought ( from searching ) the fuel pressure regulator was built into the pump.
I could not find one inline. If this is true, could or has anyone just put one inline ? Or some type of fuel check valve? Instead of replacing the whole unit & what it entails. I can do it no worries just seems cheaper & easier if the regulator is the problem. I dont know ( have not searched enough ) if I could just buy the regulator that goes to the pump but it seems to me if you have to go to all that work I may as well replace the whole unit. True?

if pump assembly is same as later model xj then check valve is built in, and would reccomend dropping tank and installing new bosch or carter assembly, just no airtex you get what you pay for. i personally wouldnt put in another check valve but its your ride
