Default Flooding at ignition 2000 Cherokee Classic

I have a 2000 Cherokee Classic 4.0L that my wife drives daily. The Jeep has started flooding at ignition frequently. When you turn the key, it almost cranks, then fails. Once it fails, it is flooded. It will crank afterwards, but roughly, and requires "dribbling" of the gas pedal and a lap around the block to clear the excess fuel. Then it runs fine until the next bad start later in the week.

Pausing in the ignition "on" position so that the fuel pump can fully prime seems to help but has not solved the problem.

I'm thinking I either have a fuel filter or emerging fuel pump problem. The Jeep has 117K miles, which is about the time my 1989 Cherokee's pump died. Hoping it may just be plugs and wires, though, since both the pump and the filter are inside the gas tank from what I understand.

Any thoughts from those more experienced than me? Thanks.

Did you ever determine what the problem was with your jeep flooding? My 1994 Cherokee has recently started doing the same thing and I really don't want to change the fuel filter and pump if it is just the plugs and wires.

definitly not plugs and wires, that will never cause flooding, bad pump, pressure regulator, or sticky injector.
