Default engine/oil treatments, seafoam?

i want to do a complete engine and oil treatment on this vehicle, many sources i say say seafoam is the best.. looking for input on that, ive heard negative things about seafoam as well.. but the benefits seem to outweigh everything else

mostly i need to clean out the fuel injectors and the oil.. when i bought it the oil was pure black and you could have probably tarred a roof with it.. change that oil about a month ago, now i want to run a cleaner through the oil, and a few days later, change the oil again to really clean out the old goo

is seafoam recommended for this task? or do people here recommend seperate products for the fuel system and oil system?..

if i use seafoam, a tutorial i read said 1/3 should go into either the PCV valve or brake booster line... which is better on a ZJ cherokee to use and why?

Hey I have an XJ and a ZJ I just do 1/3 in the gas tank 1/3 in the oil crank case and 1/3 in the brake booster line. Every vehicle that I have seafomed worked pretty good afterwards.

im posting a follow up to my seafoam experience...

i poured 1/3 in the gas, 1/3 in the oil, and 1/3 i sucked in through the PCV/CCV hose just after i changed my CCV valve/orifice

engine actually stopped smoking, but this could have been due to the CCV orifice no longer being clogged causing oil to back up into the intake

umm... seems to have more energy, sounds more stable running it too

one issue.. i was driving about 30-40 miles today on the highway, and the frickin "check gauges" light came on and my oil pressure gauge dropped to zero... im not sure if the seafoam breaking down the oil and sludge would screw with this or not.. but when i got home i drained the old oil which came out to about the consistancy of milk... poured in some valvoline synthetic and im hoping the oil pressure gauge wont act up anymore

but in all, seafoam seemed to have worked exactly as advertised and im thinking of doing it to other vehicles too

Keep in mind that seafoam used in this way will eventually, after repeated uses, clean every bit of carbon throughout the internal components of the vehicle.

If your vehicle has more than 150,000 miles, it is very likely that you will clean the gunk that is actually "sealing" worn rings and cracked rubber seals, etc. This may allow seepage of oil, causing you to have to do more maintenance.

With 265k on mine im afraid to use seafoam until I get certain gaskets replaced. =) I used it on a 1991 S-10 Blazer and it started leaking oil like a sieve -- after belching copious amounts of smoke and pollution into the environment.

Seafoam is a great product and I highly recommend, but be aware of the follow up you might have to do. =)~

jeep faced.. the seafoam didnt have any negative side effects on my 200,000 mile engine.. cleaned up the smoke, exhaust smells cleaner, seems to be running better... and the oil pressure gauge did drop way down at idle speeds.. but i drained the oil (which came out so thin) and refilled it with some valvoline full synthetic (6 quarts) and the pressure gauge is now well above 40... engine is doing really well now, and im glad i seafoamed it

however.. at 200,000 miles im anticipating the need to do major engine/tranny work within the next 100,000 miles such as an in-frame engine rebuild and a rebuild of the clutch... but thats only anticipating normal wear and tear on the engine

also, keep in mind the previous owners NEVER changed the oil, it was so sludged.. an entire quart or more of oil was in the form of sludge stuck inside the engine... ALL oil came out including what used to be sludged.. so if this engine was that poorly maintained with no problems after seafoaming, yours should be fine too

You know, I think I am going to go ahead and give it a good Seafoaming once I get to Colorado. I know it is Jeep country out there and I am confident there will be all the parts I need nearby. =)

Im just scared that i'll fix it til it's broke before I get to Colorado in two weeks, lol.
