Have you tried removing the second battery?

During the second failure I ran 1 battery. I haven't installed an isolator since everything fails way before it should even be considered an issue. ALSO both batteries are exactly the same and are designed to be able to run without one. But like I said... second failure was no amps, and single battery. I figured I'd give it a go stock that time, and still... COOKED ITSELF!

This 5-90 guy is saying the black box is from models older then 92.... I'm running a 93 and isn't the same alternator used till 98?

It looks more like a relay then just a black box of nothing. It has a positively charged green wire going to it, and a black ground.

When was the security system installed in relation to all hell breaking loose? If those aren't done properly, and even if a professional installs them, I've seen horror stories of them screwing up just about EVERYTHING electrical on the vehicle.

no! The problem also happened with only running 1 battery. Before this was even an issue it went almost 2 years with no problems. The batteries I'm running aren't standard batteries and can get away with out the iso.

I think it all started just over 1 year after it was installed.

BUT!!! Now that you mention it... I think the alarm MAY have something to do with it. Some alarm related issues sometimes feel like they are part of the problem. Ya know how when you use a remote start you should be able to hit the brake peddle and shut the vehicle off... well... that only happens when it wants to now. Also, the alarm I have has an Anti-grind feature that stops you from accidentally trying to start the already running vehicle out of habit.... it feels like SOMETIMES that stops me from starting the Jeep and I crawl under it and start it with a screw driver at the starter to make it crank.

I understand the issues that can come from a shotty alarm install, But charging? UNLESS the premature death of everything is caused by a battery drain that isnt routed through the fuse panel thats FROM the alarm.. which is why I can't find a draw in the fuse box...

If this is the case, I might have to have the alarm rewired PROPERLY or because of these issues.. just replace the entire thing just in case!

But thats money I don't have just yet... and that in turn, is another dilemma!

They can often cause a chain reaction. A circuit fries or has a bad connection and then creates a draw or a short that in turn fries something in the PCM or something which then fries something else etc. You could try disabling the alarm system, but the better thing would be to remove the system all together. Not saying pull all the wires (may need to eventually if a wire is shorting out or something) but diconnect anything that goes to the control module or other sensors.

I didn't get around to removing the alarm just yet. Weather is a little weird right now and I don't have a garage... BUT I did notice something since installing the extra volt gauge! I'm starting to get 15+ volts when driving and 14.9 at idle. I noticed it going as high as 15.3! This can't be good!

With the gauge in my dash still reading 13 or 14 and the new in the 15s... could this mean the computer is causing the alternator to over charge the batteries? I think I need to find the connections the computer uses to get its information for charging regulation. NOW I'm pretty sure I'm over charging and this is whats cooking everything.

ok so just double checked the new gauge against the Multi... I'm getting .4 lower on the multi... but even 14.9 seems a little high no?

13.6 to 14.2 is the safe area for system charging
