I bought a Thrush Welded "vintage sound" muffler to replace my crappy stock one and looking under the jeep I developed a plan that I would like some feedback on. Basically I want to take down the cat and replace it with straight pipe, going into the thrush muffler and then out to the tailpipe. The muffler would be in the same general position (its 13in instead of 23 like stock) I'm just eliminating the cat.

Keep the cat intact, I happen to like not having to smell the stink of hydrocarbons out of the tailpipe in front of me.

Its not possible for this thing to excrete any more fumes.
I'll take it under advisement I had no idea (never even thought to look) that cat removal was a blocked topic. As for the plan I was looking for feedback ie maybe people removed the cat and ended up suffering performance, sound, etc

I'll update for any future readers looking for the same thing:
I did exactly as I said. I cut just before the cat and ran an 2.5id pipe (18in long) from that cut. That ppe feeds directly into a welded thrush vintage muffler and from there another 18in section. Some flex over the rear axel and a 2.5in tail pipe.
Very loud (imo) at first but after a few minutes the tone will settle some. At idle and low cruise it sounds very throaty, but once you hit bout 35+mph its sort of whiney. Not ricer, but whiney. I plan to change it out with a glasspack and see what happens.
I drove around 200 miles and per the computer I have gone from 14mpg to 19mpg. Note that in my case the stock exhaust was factory original from 1993 so that muffler and cat were shot.
