Default display panel not working

My jeep has a display panel under or by the radio and gear shifter. My old jeep did not have one but my new one does (well not new its a 1996).

its not a 4 wd so not sure what the display panel would be used for.

should I find a replacement and install it or just leave it alone?

They tend to go out, it's called a VIC (Vehicle Information Center)... it's not worth replacing, just take it out.

Some jeeps came with a cubby hole you can swap that in,Or if your a off roader you can make a switch panel to fit the hole.

I don't think the Grand Cherokees included a cubby hole, but I think you can make your own, or make some sort of metal or plastic plate to fit in place of the display screen. The Cherokees did include a cubby hole, maybe it'd work.
