While crawling under the car, I noticed a hose loose. There isn't any fluid leaking from it nor was there any fluid stain on the ground. Naturally I want to re-attach it, but what does it attach to?

I have attached a picture. The perspective is from underneath the driver-side of the cabin, looking towards the front of the vehicle. It looks like the hose comes out of the back of the front axle differential and loops towards the front of the engine bay. Right now, the other end of the hose is just looped and duct taped off next to the front side of the front driver side wheel assembly.

 

You have a CAR? vent hoses for the front axle on JEEPS attach to the air box.

If it has been off awhile & you had your jeep in some deep water I would recomend changing your diff fluids

 

folks got jokes around here. My bad about the typo. After owning CARS for all my adult driving life, an occasional "car" reference will happen every long once in a while.

No water. All dry land city driving. Thanks guys. Saved me yet an ADDITIONAL fee by a mechanic.

 

Okay, I'm about to put on my dummy-newbie cap and ask this question; do you have a picture of where it's supposed to go? I see the brake booster, but I don't see any place where the hose would attach to. Is the host fitting actually ON the firewall itself? Also, what is the valve cover? <-- See, I told ya I had my dummy-newbie hat on.

 

Just pull it up towards the hood, but let it have a few inches of slack. Use a zip tie to a wiring harness or something. Eventually, if you start to modify the Jeep you'll need a new hose to lengthen it anyway.

The valve cover is the long silver/black thing at the top of your engine that covers.... the valvetrane.

 

its a breather tube, it dont connect to anything. it just comes from the axel, up into the engin bay and does nothing, it just goes up there cuz there is less of a likelihood of water getting in if its up higher

 

On '03 & '04 GCs the hose has an attachment that attaches to the top of the shock stud that comes up into the engine compartment. Just secure it to something in the engine compartment to keep it up as high as you can. You can also extend it if you want it to be even higher.
