Wow, are you driving my ZJ? I just started having the same problem. I am convinced my problem is in the drivers door switch. The symptoms quit if I pull on the door while driving (holding the door shut tight). I was just checking it out and it seems the switch has to be all the way in before it makes.

Next weekend I am going to dig into it. We will see what happens.

My zj would so something similar. The interior lights would flash and so would the headlights ( lots of fun driving at night). I believe it is related to the automatic headlights. I have been turning them on manually and haven't had problem since.

The '97 ZJ I had had a very similar issue. When driving, the overhead lights would flash on occasion, and sometimes when parked, the alarm would come on but there would be no one anywhere near the vehicle. I found out as stated above, that if I pulled the door tight while driving it wouldn't happen.
So I moved the striker in the door jamb inward so that it would hold the door closed tighter.
Turns out the dome/overhead lights activate the alarm, and the wind was rocking the Jeep just enough to make the door trigger the switch, and make the lights come on. After adjusting the striker, the issues went away. Just adjust it in small amounts if you try this, as it doesn't take much.

Ol"blue You mentioned the wind setting off the alarm. When mine went off, a storm front had just come through and it got a bit windy. I didn't get why the alarm activated twice that night, I bet the weather triggered it. Thanks!

I'd say that's what did it. You're welcome.

I finnally got to it. I replaced the door jamb switch. All is well now. No more flashing lights inside the cab. And just a 7 dollar part!
