Default Differential Cover Size??

I just bought a 94 grand cherokee limited with a 5.2 V8 and 4WD. The back differential cover is leaking and I wanted to buy a new cover to replace that one and also the front one. What sizes are they. They both have ten bolts. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

ok size doesnt matter in this case sorry! but! if you want just go to the auto parts store and tell them what the problem is they can help you. id say you either have a dana 35, dana 44 or crysler 8.25 27 spline. hard to tell take a picture of the rear and post it i can tell you then.
your front is a dana 30

With the V8 you should have the D44 rear.
And Welcome to CF.

Some D35's had the plug too. You better check again. I don't think they put the 8.25 in the ZJ. Someone could have switched it of course.
The 8.25 is flat on the bottom edge, while the D35 isn't.

D35. Your cover doesn't have that raised lip around the perimeter of the bolt holes that a 8.25 does.
And see how the bottom edge of yours is more rounded?

I don't think you need a new cover, just clean it up and paint it and use sealer or a gasket to replace. Clean the rear end of all old fluid, and look for any metal shavings. Replace the gear lube too obviously.

That happened with my 98 Grand and it turned out to be a wheel bearing! Check your wheel bearings and see its very weird how that does. Im also replacing my Pinnon Seal while im in there! All keep you guys posted on what i find

Default wheel bearings

I am pretty apt at mechanical work but have never touched a differential. Are the wheel bearings hard to replace? I will replace them while I am in there to be safe if its an easy enouogh job.

Here is a link to a DIY in autorepair.about.com http://autorepair.about.com/od/fixit...earing_old.htm. There, hope it might help you.

Anyway, I was just thinking of getting this differential cover. What do you think about it. Actually, we have the same problem but the leak is worse than the one posted above.
