Default Difference 4x2 and 4x4?

What is the difference between a 4x2 front axle and a 4x4 axle?

Google is your friend here

4x2 means 4 wheels with 2 having power (your rear wheels in your case)

4x4 means 4 wheels with 4 wheels having power, whether it be full time or part time

Most 4×2 (commonly called 2wd) have no front axle...it would be a waste of extra weight.

Found a 2wd WJ and I'm thinking of using the knuckles off it on my XJ just wanted to know if the steering and knuckles are the same on 2wd and 4wd?

4x2 front axle has no differential. It's just a straight tube
