Default convert 4wd to 2wd?

what is necessary for this to be done. long story short my little brought brought his first car. $500 96 GC. it had a front end noise. after fixing the broke sway link i noticed a clicking noise only on turns. decided to drive it 45 mins away to my house for my mechanic to check it out since it drove fine straight. blew out front axle seals then blew front differential.

whats the easiest way to disconnect the transfer case to the front. can i just pull out the front two cv joints and take out the front differential?

eventually down the road i will go get a compete front axle fro the junkyard. i looked them up on car-part.com apparently there are 2 gear ratio options. i am looking around to try to figure out which one he has.

Need to know what transfer case you have. If you have the NP231 it is not a problem removing the front driveshaft. But if you have the NP249 you may have a no park issue, the 249 relies on both axles for park in certain model years. As far as the front axle goes, all you have to do is remove the axle shafts, but you will need the stub shafts that go through the front hubs to stay put, the hub bearings will come apart and you will lose a wheel without the stub shaft.

depending on your location, if your on the east coast im parting out my ZJ and for 100 bucks you can have my front axle. its not perfect but it got me up and down the road perfectly fine. the track bar mount was messed up by the PO but i repaired it and with a 3 in lift on 31s it towed me camaro 800 miles back from MI to MD with no issues, and need a passenger side axle shaft only because i accidently broke the ABS ring when replacing my u-joint. other then that there are no problems, and again she drives perfectly fine the way it is right now....

let me know if your interested, i cant help with your 4>2wd but i can hopefully get you a axle for cheap???

thanks for the infor guys. we just got a little snow so once it clears i ll go check the transfer case.

would my best bet be to just remove the guts out of the front pumkin and leve the cv joints in the shafts?
